Ridgefield high school student joins Rep. Stephanie McClintock as a House page
Rep. Stephanie McClintock hosted Ridgefield High School student, Julia Smith as a House page in Olympia in the state House of Representatives during the week of Mar. 23-28.
During her time at the state Capitol, Julia assisted representatives on the House floor and spent time helping Rep. McClintock, R-Vancouver, with some of her legislative duties. She also worked in several buildings on the Capitol campus while delivering messages and documents to legislators and staff.
Additionally, Julia attended page school for the entire week to learn how the Legislature functions
“It was a pleasure to sponsor Julia as a House page last week. She was attentive and diligent in her duties. I enjoyed working with her and wish her the best,” said McClintock, who represents the 18th District. “The page program is a great opportunity for our young people to get an inside view of how our state government works.”
Julia, who is 16, enjoys swimming, running, and hanging out with friends. She attends Ridgefield High School in the 20th District but lives in Felida, which is in the 18th District.
Each year, students from around Washington participate in the House Page Program. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $65 per day while serving in the program.
