Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Now that the 2026 legislative session has come to a close, there is a great deal to review and discuss with you. This year’s session was defined by a new state income tax, major policy debates, significant spending increases, and decisions that will have lasting impacts on families across our district and throughout Washington.

With the backdrop in mind, now is the perfect time to get an in-person update on everything that went on in Olympia over the last two months. I will be joining my seatmate, Rep. John Ley, at an in-person town hall meeting this Saturday in Battle Ground.

One of the most notable actions this session was the majority party’s decision to pass a state income tax following a 24-hour floor debate. We will share our perspectives on how that debate unfolded, what the legislation includes, and what it could mean moving forward, including the potential for future expansion.

We will also take time to break down the newly adopted operating budget, which now exceeds $80 billion. This represents a continued trend of rapid government growth and raises serious concerns about long-term sustainability, reliance on uncertain revenue projections, and the use of reserve funds to balance the budget.

In addition, we will discuss other key issues addressed this session, including public safety, affordability, education, and infrastructure, and how those decisions will affect our local communities.

This town hall is an opportunity for you to hear directly from your state representatives, ask questions, and share your thoughts. I invite you to join Rep. Ley and me this Saturday, March 28, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Battle Ground City Hall, located at 109 SW 1st Street. We look forward to seeing you and continuing this important conversation.

It’s an honor to serve you.
